MEDITERRANEAN. TOT-HOM S/S18 COLLECTION
‘A dress must follow the woman’s body. It’s not the body that needs to be adapted to the dress’
Hubert de Givenchy (1927-2018).
26II18 – BARCELONA, SPAIN.
Many curves are ahead, a climatic shift. February tends to be a month of seasonal transition, although this is not giving us a rest. The event promised because the action took place in one of the most emblematic hotel- flag in Barcelona and the Diagonal Avenue, the newly renovated Hotel Sofia (formerly Princess Sofia), owned by Mestre family and Selenta Group (previously Expo Hotels and Resorts). The well-built generational triumvirate made up of Marta Rota, Alejandra Osés and Andrea Osés aimed high in the debut of ‘Mediterranean’, Tot-Hom’s collection for this coming Spring/Summer, demonstrating natural expressive strength and serenity; and it makes sense.
The formula that works best for them consists of two annually shows a year, as in yesteryear, the classic Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter. These girls submit seeking at all costs to flee from the busy official calendar fashion display and to keep up with their audience because in terms of catwalks, Tot-Hom’s year is independent and they don’t fight with anybody. Our Mediterranean Sea climate sanctuary is their creative inspiration and the owners of all this granted us an hour and a half cruise on a journey as complete as possible.
LÍNEA A’s designers often tend to resort in architecture to give conceptual substance to their strokes and showed tops with lace, A-line silhouette blouses, Swiss-embroidered cotton dresses and fine woven combined with matching warm mid season vests and white trench in beige, stone and khaki colors.
With a peculiar long, a pattern that favours and stylizes as few ones, the immortal and unfailing Capri, the one already in place is at the latest cutting edge and the one and only we are in love with, which we combine with sneakers, stilettos, booties, ballet flats or high-heeled sandals, is a summer favourite.
Black is for all seasons, is the color of intelligence and confidence, the most recquired by protocol and powerful of the whole chromatic universe. Joint custody of the winning package and indisputable fetish colors of the Catalan Company, the ground red, white and black colors and their varied tonalities, have positiva sides.
These garments paved the way for its Prêt-à-porter in an exercise of what is meant by a deployment of dramatic effects. Volumes that are exaggerated ruffles, feathers applications and heavy layers of tulle. Sweet and very much in vogue since the fifties of the last century gingham checks still come through as a-choice-print and everlasting ultra-feminine, classic and fruitful floral patterns, shared role in an escalation of azure-blue, turquoise, lavender and the acclaimed navy blue.
In its Haute Couture with endless registers, dress screams. A large proportion of this line’s charm lies in the craftsmanship of the seamstresses, whom I miss on the stage in the spotlight for a few seconds. Tot-Hom sails along the seduction of the transparencies in exquisite creations of chiffon, tulle, silk and taffeta constructing gala dresses in different stretches. Feathers, rhinestones and sequins are also starring.
With spring in the immediate horizon and to go warm you up, Osés-Rota family revealed to us spring-and-summer-time colors playing a chromatic menu ranging from acid orange and yellow to an entertaining series of sugary pastel shades, such as mint green, a variety of lilac, a repertoire of blues, a range of pinks and a red progression.
Carmina Rotger’s unmistakable fashion accessories, in charge of the Sisters García Rotger (the charming Marta and Ariadna), who declare their love for islanders nuances of unique and unrivalled costume jewellery Angela Caputi – Firenze, campaigned for a sum of meanings. A contagious abundance, of which I am a fascinated devotee and purchaser.
Timely distraction was given by some common usual clients; it’s a thing of the past that they choose to leave before time dropping out of the show intercepting its goal to hundreds of guests. Or a bold attendee who moved me for being against the use of technology and instant communication to catch a moment, unrelated to the new path and the current social reality. Nonetheless, when the old world and the new world are understood, it does not sound too far-fetched to skip the rules.
Call and place, also social and gastronomic seeks points gave Isabel López, the figurehead of Isabel López Portraits, and me cause to gather at the restaurant redesigned by interior designer Jaime Beriestain ‘Impar’, one of the local and urban gastronomic firsts the Hotel Sofia suggests us and where we delighted with a likewise Mediterranean culinary offer raised by chef Carles Tejedor Muntadas, the Selenta Group’s advisor on gastronomical matters.
Tot-Hom, that promises dress a long-lasting and triumphant lifework, is plural feminine and they delight themselves in the empowerment. They cling to what the lyrics to the Spanish singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat’s song indicates, in one of his most famous albums, ‘Mediterranean’ (1971), ‘… Close to the sea, because I was born in the Mediterranean…’
