TOT-HOM SS20 COLLECTION
18-IV-20 – BARCELONA, SPAIN.
Tot-Hom SS20. It was last February 28th & the last fashion show with audience of the year – with more than 500 attendees-, possible & inevitably, so far. Beyond its tragic human cost, the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus pandemic has also created chaos in fashion industry at an unprecedented scale & impacted the lives & habits of consumers around the world. How brands are going to navigate this gradually more inconsistent retail landscape?
This time, saying goodbye to warm clothes and replacing them by cooler, more flattering garments has been easy as we are living the transition confined at home.
Marta Rota, Andrea Osés and Alejandra Osés, apart from showing at the stroke of needle and thread the power of their know-how in Haute Couture and Prêt-à-porter and their mastery in the field of urban style, set out the trends that will inundate fashion this Spring/Summer 2020 season. According to their vision for the future and their values, the Catalan designers opened this new decade springtime making permanent and inexcusable nods towards the characters in Aaron Slim’s photographs, who became alive on the runway before my eyes.
A new start for this spring might be wrapping yourself in a men’s tailor’s trousers and accompany it by a raincoat, whose reinvention capacity is inexhaustible, or keep yourself in a safari jacket to explore the city. There is no reason to not back monochromatic garments in sand and ivory or in the most immortal tone, the purest color of the palette, versatile and extremely favorable: white. It’ll be the clear winner of the season and night. And, although the Pantone color for 2020 is classic blue, or baby blue, leading to a very appetizing bet, pink and white are tough competitors and break into all shades of their color spectrum. And by the time it gets hot, saris, caftans, exotic paisley or cashmere prints turned into one-piece dresses will emerge as the most vibe-tropical choice. A cross section of hippie and psychedelic influences.
Marta Rota’s dramatism and chromatic overdose, by her own right, very bold and a little crazy, makes her dresses tell stories always; they are lucky charms with which you can convey your own identity. The extended family of violets will conquer you from head to toe: lilac or lavender for romanticism and purple or magenta to vibrate. An added vitamin C with no limits on creation. The women’s spring wardrobe has been filled with floral romance to make us immerse in the irresistible summer spirit, vibrant colors, citrus, strategic volumes, brush strokes and prints. Metallic fabrics also abound. Gold and silver, pink and green. Lamé and sequins sparkle will boost it farther, if that’s possible, our long summer days.
Of course, Tot-Hom didn’t want to forget about the brides of this new decade and its very own one is Greek-inspired: beautiful, sweet, sensual and idyllic, like a true goddess on Olympus. An ancient art piece bathed by our Mediterranean waters.
If you have the chance to sign up for all these weapons and you mix them with fun necklaces, contemporary bracelets and maxi belts, in this case all costume jewelry and fashion accessories by Carmina Rotger, you will clearly set the tone in 2020.
It’s been harrowing weeks for the fashion industry — and the wider world. With stock markets plunging, international borders closing and entire countries in lockdown, how will fashion change, once we have moved beyond this period of uncertainty?
